Barako Bull squeaks past Meralco Bolts, 74-68

The Barako Bull Energy Boosters eked out a 74-68 win over the Meralco Bolts in today’s first game of the 2010-11 PBA Philippine Cup at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City.

Barako Bull’s Reed Juntilla made a key jumper and then made four consecutive free throws to break a 68-all tie in the last two minutes of the game.

Gabby Espinas was assessed a flagrant two foul in the last 11.5 seconds of the game when he got entangled with Energy Booster rookie Hans Thiele.

He was eventually thrown out and faces an automatic one-game suspension.

The Energy Boosters were led by Sunday Salvacion who made 21 points on 5 of 6 shooting from the 3-point area to lead the way for Barako Bull.

Salvacion was later on adjudged the best player of the game.

The win also ended the Bull’s 13-game losing streak at the Cuneta Astrodome dating back to 2008.
